Bear Lake 2009

I love Bear Lake! My sweet cousins are nice enough to invite everyone to go up to their cabin every summer (right on the water, private beach, very convenient). We mostly just hung out on the beach because there were so many boats and the water was too choppy, not to mention freezing ha ha! We had a great time, though!

The siblings. We usually don't do a "goofy face" picture, but I'm thinking we need to start doing them more often since I love this! Ha ha!
Matt building a sand castle. We forgot how sticky and wet the sand is up there, so the castles don't stay up for long!

Little Jillian, Kate, & Court. I forget that everytime we hang out with these cousins I become "big Jill" in order to differentiate from "little Jill." Not my favorite nickname.

Part of our camp. The mountain was so green from all the rain. It was beautiful! We also enjoyed riding the Fat Cat (see motorcycle in the background), and playing frisbee and Smash Ball.

We love frisbee! Since we didn't have Rhett's amazing frisbee, we had to settle for some flimsy, small one. Matt called it "the poor man's frisbee" ha ha.

We also enjoyed some delicious raspberry shakes...mmm! Thanks for the fun time, everyone!

Lake Powell!

We went to Lake Powell last week! I love that place and could stay there forever. (Well, maybe skip the winter...) We went with some of our cousins and had a blast! We did so many fun things, but this post will already be long enough, so here are some of the highlights :)

On the houseboat driving out to our spot!

Naturally we made an obstacle course, one obstacle being jumping off the houseboat. The rest included skipping a rock, boogie-boarding, swimming, and throwing a frisbee. Of course Rhett won.

Colter (notice Rhett preparing to hit Colter with a noodle)

The water was pretty crummy on Tuesday, so we all made the trek out to Rainbow Bridge.
The whole crew :)

Courtney & Kate - cutest nieces!

The fam. The bridge background never gets old.
This was a common occurence

Lookin' good!

Rhett sucks
Courtney wanted to try wakeboarding. So cute! Unfortunately it looks like she'll have to try again next year, as her attempt was unsuccessful :) Way to go, Court!

Overall the trip was a success. We're usually wakeboarders, but we ventured out and did some skiing this year. I was able to get up on one ski! This was my first real attempt, since I can't really count the one time I got up on a fat ski like 8 years ago.

I usually fix my shorts when I get up, but I wasn't good enough to let go & fix them yet! Ha ha

My mom hates her legs for some strange reason, so she skis in pants. My bro Matt didn't realize she was wearing them, so I was dying laughing when he said "What's with Mom's bulbous skin?" Ahaha. Way to go, Ma!

My dad hurt his hamstring, so two-skiing it was this year! Go, Papps!

Matt had to mimic my dad's two-ski performance this year. This was done by (1) straddling the wake, and (2) lifting up one ski ha ha. The torch was officially passed from father to son when Matt completed a shore start, which my Dad used to do all the time.

What's a trip to Lake Powell without a golf course? My uncle Steve is a big golfer (what would you expect, he's a doctor), so he set up a course.

A bunch of the guys playing sand golf

Then on Thursday we went to hike Hole-In-The-Rock. This is a total misnomer, because it's more like a huge crack - not a hole. The pioneers came down this with 26 wagons! Insane! It was hard to hike up, I can't imagine taking wagons down it!

My aunt Mary loves these 'foot' pictures, so we took one for her after the hike :)Karl & Me

Goodbye, Powell! See ya next year! Thanks to the Wiest's for inviting us to come!

This made my day!

We were driving up to Salt Lake on Saturday morning, only to find the Jazz Bear riding his motorcycle on the freeway! I was so glad I had my camera ha ha. He was signaling and everything -being safe- just like a beloved Utah mascot should :) We're not really sure how safe it is to be driving in a bear suit though...

Colter spotted him coming up behind us

On the back of his vest it says "Bears Against Child Abuse" BACA. He had his uniform on underneath.

We both got off on 6th south, and he turned up 4th west. We assume he was on his way back home to Energy Solutions Arena ha ha!

Memorial Day activities

What a day! First we went down to Herriman for the annual Memorial Day breakfast. It's one of the few things we do with Gordy's side of the family, so it was fun to see those cousins. The food was delicious, and afterward we threw the football, kicked the soccer ball around, sat and talked, and watched Colter, Madden, & Mason play ultimate frisbee.

Chiara and Marley. The joke was that Mar couldn't lift up her head because her cheeks were holding it down ha ha, she's so cute!!

The Haycock girls (Minus Curry - we missed you! How dare you be absent from the Herriman breakfast! ha ha)

Doo Doo and me in Harry-man. See ya next year!

Then came the Sorensen part of the day. We went down and hung out with Karla and Rhett & their girls until my parents, Matt, & Sarah could come.

Colter and Kate at Wal-Mart

We had a riot at this playground Karla and Rhett found. Rhett designed a little obstacle course that we all had to complete. It was absolutely hilarious watching everyone run this thing. No one was exempt and we were all timed ha ha.

It included...

  • First: Swinging across this...thing...
Colter

Rhett -aka spider monkey

  • Then making your way towards the slide and going down...
Sarah plummetting down!

Court enjoying herself

Karl sliding in style

  • Climbing the ferocious rock wall...
Yes, even Courtney and Kate had to complete the course, even though Kate should have received a 10 second penalty for needing assistance ha ha

  • Flying down the slide...
Rhett - hands up!

Matt

Pappito -He pulled a hamstring on obstacle #1 ha ha

  • Running UP the next big slide, and going down the next...
  • Then running in for victory!!
Colter -his flip flops proved to be detrimental to his performance, so he finally just kicked them off midway through the course!

To no one's real surprise, Rhett was the victor! His best time was 39 seconds! We secretly think it's because he was the only one with real shoes. I love how it looks like he only has one leg in this picture ha ha.

Doo Doo and me, again...a little winded after the big race

The fam!
Thanks for the fun time, everybody! Love you all!

Spring Softball & Batting Cages

I've been playing on a co-ed softball league for the last few weeks, and it's a total blast. It's with a bunch of my friends from high school, so we have a good time. It's been a while since I've played, so I'm stickin to the the outfield (left center) for a while until I get back in the groove and remember how to play infield ha ha. ("That's left, I said left center" -The Sandlot)

Our team name is Indecent Exposure ha ha. It's kind of the team name we've continued to use for all different sports teams over the years, and it works perfectly!

Here are a few of the members:
Christian, Jac & Brian, Kristen, Tony, Me, and Zach

Shelly (Hells Bells)
Tony (T-bone)

Christian (Cox)
Me

We all have numbers and nicknames on the back of our shirts (I'm not crazy about being #00, what am I, the Jazz Bear?), and everyone has an individual song that plays as they go up to bat; it's hilarious. I chose that 'Tequila' song from the Sandlot.

Taking the field! WooHoo!

I've been a little rusty with my hitting, so obviously, we went to the batting cages! Our friends Dave and Lindsey were kind enough to accompany us :)

Changes

That's just the way it is :) We have moved! In order to relieve some stress, and because of an internship Colter received, we've relocated. We've decided our days of apartment managing are over. We've been in our new place for about a week now, and are trying to get everything organized.
We're excited about our new place. It's smaller, but has a couple perks. We have a gym, pool, free tanning bed open 24/7 (ha ha, that was what really made the decision for us), dishwasher, washer/dryer, and best of all...TALL CEILINGS!!. No longer will it be possible for Colter's brother Carson to hit his elbow on the ceiling, and Colter won't have to duck his head while coming down the hallway and walking into different rooms!
It will be very adequate for our needs. We're excited for this new chapter in our lives! Thanks to our wonderful families who helped us move!

I'll post some new pics when we have everything organized and under control :)

New living room
New kitchen
New bedroom

Temple Square in the spring

We've lived close to Temple Square for a while now, and I decided to walk there a few weeks ago and take some pics. (It was one of those rare 70 degree sunny Mondays before the snowstorm on Tuesday came...ya know like we've been getting a lot lately...) I love flowers so I decided to take some photographs. Enjoy!
